There’s nothing can turn the good old British stiff upper lip into a quivering blob of jelly than the corset. In Victorian times when they were at the height of fashion, they were designed to give a lady a feminine figure (whether she liked it or not) by forcing a tiny waist on her. This resulted in steady walking, squashed internal organs and a difficulty to breathe.
Today, all our beautiful steampunk ladies consider a corset the staple requirement of any outfit. Thanks to 100 years of liberal thinking, the corset is now worn on the outside and has caused many a gentleman to have to fish his monocle out his cup of tea.
The vicious cycle of the corset is that women like them because a gentleman may leave her alone rather than struggle to undo it. A gentleman, however, prefers them to be left on!
