An art gallery in Vancouver has began a steampunk exhibition this month featuring art work from professionals and amateurs from the local area.
Working in partnership with Penticton Museum and Archives, the SS Sicamous and the Kettle Valley Railway Society, Penticton Art Gallery has titled the exhibition “Steamfest” and started on the March 21 with a reception/dance evening where visitors could realise their interpretation of steampunk and dress in their best outfits.
The curator of Penticton Gallery, Paul Crawford, said “The fashion is such a major component of that culture. We kind of had to do the dance party thing to capture the whole essence of steampunk.” He added that there are around 60 plus artists that have contributed to the display and the works range from paintings to full mechanical contraptions.
