Back in April 2015, I was an extra in a music video by The Storm Trees, a band from Yorkshire. The song is a catchy number called See So Far. The video was made on a tight time frame and features a number of steampunks from the local area.
It was part of a project which I’ll be discussing more when I have a chat with Richard (Lead Singer) of The Storm Trees. The premise of the video is that a young girl visits an old mansion (Wentworth House) and begins searching using a steampunk telescope. As she wanders upstairs, she passes a dapper gentleman (yours truly) dressed in splendid steampunk garb. I turn to watch her as she passes before returning my wistful gaze out of the window once more. Sarah (the girl in the video) kept smiling awkwardly in embarrassment because I had to watch her walk past. It was all I could do not to burst out laughing. She then keeps searching throughout the house meeting other steampunks along the way including Peter Ellis, Susan Shaw, David Redford and Rimosky Cough who had the most splendid medieval gauntlet that I still covet to this day.
It was a cold day in the stables section of the house that is currently up for sale for £8 million. I met some wonderful people, though, had copious amounts of tea and cake and even got to meet an old work friend who is now the bassist in the band.
The Storm Trees often play at Steampunk Doncaster, but you can catch them out and about as they tour around Yorkshire and neighbouring counties. Go and take a look at their Facebook page and give them a like for all their hard work.
