Cities across Britain are to hold markets in the style of how they imagine the early 21st century will look, it has been revealed.
According to Whitehall sources, the growing popularity in science fiction and the thrill of what might be in the future has inspired many to start a small, yet popular, subculture called Oilpunk. People interested in Oilpunk tend to dress in synthetic fabrics and hold square pieces of metal to their ears pretending that they’re long range communication devices. They also believe that Britain will enter into a second Elizabethan age. The ideology of the typical Oilpunk is to exist for the day, not consider anyone else’s feelings and use up all valuable resources on the planet. They speculate that in the future people will be overweight, in a lot of debt and reliant on futuristic machinery to do a lot of their work for them.

The movement has become so popular there are groups popping up all over the known world. Now, groups in Britain have decided to conduct Christmas Markets with a Oilpunk theme. The markets will sport authentic Oilpunk items that have been mass produced, preferably in a sweatshop in the colonies. These will typically be low quality, high profit products that will likely fall apart a few days after the market has ended and the vendors have disappeared.

As well as the market stalls there will be some entertainment with regular petty thefts, drunken locals and occasional arguments between stall holders and disgruntled customers. There will be plenty to see from the stark light of the fluorescent tubing on each stall to the dumped fruit boxes on each corner of the street.
