Showtime, the producers of Victorian scarefest Penny Dreadful have released another, longer teaser trailer for series three of the 19th century horror show. In the new series we will see the return of favourite protagonists Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), Ethan Chandler (, Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton), the Creature (Rory Kinnear) and Dr Frankenstein  (Harry Treadaway) as along with returning antagonists Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), Lily (Billie Piper) and Hecate Poole (Sarah Greene).

The first three teasers we saw were very short. You can view them via this link here: Penny Dreadful teaser trailers Series 3

Who is this new protagonist walking with Sir Malcolm Murray and Ethan Chandler?

The new teaser shows a little of the previous scenes, but also expands on them and shows new footage. We now can see that Sir Malcolm goes to America, perhaps rescuing/retrieving Ethan? It looks as though the Vampires have returned and there’s even more confirmation of a young girl in the lives of Dorian and Lily. Interesting scenes for me include the addition of another hero at 44 seconds. It’s an unclear or out of focus image but could be Kaetenay. He’s a new addition to the series and is listed with a nine episode run. He’s played by Wes Studi, a native American from Oklahoma.

The Creature gets lucky, but will it last?

Also at 1min in, we see the Creature/John Clare in bed with a lady. It’s again unclear who this is but could it be Vanessa? They grew an intriguing friendship in series two that was deeply intellectual. Could it become attraction too? Later we see him in obvious pain, but then the Creature wouldn’t be the Creature if he wasn’t suffering in some way.

The new series is set for broadcast in the USA on May 1st 2016 and while there’s no confirmation yet, I’m hoping it’s a similar date in the UK. Keep returning to Steampunk Journal for more updates.
