New steampunk calendar raising money for Endometriosis UK

CHARITY CALENDAR 2017

I have been asked to create a charity calendar in support of Endometriosis UK. Endometriosis effects around 1.5 Million women in the U.K.  It is a chronic and debilitating condition that causes painful or heavy periods, infertility issues, fatigue and bowel and bladder problems. It is a horrible disease.

When Lady Absinthe approached me to create this calendar, she knew that I’m an artist not a portrait photographer. This means that my images tell stories I have created. When I was told that the calendar was in support of Endometriosis UK (and the ‘secret burlesque group’ was formed to build back confidence), I knew exactly how this calendar would look. I gained permission to enter and photograph a decaying Asylum. All the backgrounds were to represent the decaying disease that is Endometriosis. I then set about creating two images of each of the ladies. One represented them in everyday life. Another to show how confident they are in their burlesque persona. The latter was in the form of a reflection in a mirror – or another version of themselves – in the decaying room. This has produced a poignant calendar that represents a complex multi-level set of images.

This means I have been lucky enough to work with Absinthe & Lace Champagne Supper Club  Body Confidence Burlesque students and Beau Hair to create this calendar.
