World Goth Day-Sisters and Brothers in Black Steampunks owe a lot to Goth culture, much more than just the saying “Steampunks are Goths that discovered brown”. Like their punk cousins, the Goth movement finds its roots in dark counter culture, only with a 19th century fantasy, horror, and literature bent. And like Gothic folk, Steampunk finds much of its inspiration in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, including new romantic style fashion with nuances of twisted naughtiness. The video for Adam Ant’s “Strip” is a perfect example: Goth and Steampunk have reached such levels of popularity that each has internationally declared “Days” on the calendar.
